Wiggling the phone around seems to help but it won&#8217;t stay charging.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Solution:<\/strong> Clean out the charging port. Years of old sticky pocket lint have built up and the charger doesn&#8217;t insert all the way, causing the connection to go in and out. I had to use a paperclip to delicately scrape out all the junk that was in there (a simple paper towel did not help). No clue how all this lint fit in that tiny port&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.jjhayes.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/iPhone4DockLint-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-266 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.jjhayes.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/iPhone4DockLint-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"940\" height=\"529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.jjhayes.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/iPhone4DockLint-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.jjhayes.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/iPhone4DockLint-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.jjhayes.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/iPhone4DockLint-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.jjhayes.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/iPhone4DockLint-1536x865.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blog.jjhayes.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/iPhone4DockLint-2048x1153.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Problem:<\/strong> Podcasts app for iOS 7.1.2 is no longer available in the App Store. Apple recommends upgrading to iOS 10 &#8211; not likely on this iPhone 4.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Attempted Solutions:<\/strong> Didn&#8217;t have this app in any of my iTunes Backups, or in &#8220;Purchased Apps -&gt; Not on this phone&#8221;.\u00a0 Really annoyed at Apple over making this so hard to get.\u00a0 I explored a bunch of options that didn&#8217;t work (like using an <a href=\"https:\/\/discussions.apple.com\/docs\/DOC-12493\">old iTunes version<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/LegacyJailbreak\/comments\/crbqjb\/question_how_to_install_apple_podcasts_on_ios_7\/\">downloading a .ipa<\/a>, using and .ipa from another old iPhone 3G I had laying around&#8230;etc).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Actual Solution:<\/strong> Using my more modern device (iPhone 8 on iOS 13) with the same iTunes account, I installed an app called <a href=\"http:\/\/rssrad.io\">RSSRadio<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/app\/rssradio-podcast-downloader\/id386600664?ign-mpt=uo%3D4\">App Store<\/a> then switched to my older device (iPhone 4 on iOS 7.1.2), searched for RSSRadio in the AppStore, and used the &#8220;Cloud Download&#8221; icon to install a valid, old version of the app.<br \/>\n<em>* Special Thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/LegacyJailbreak\/comments\/719g9o\/question_podcast_downloadsynch_on_ios_712\/\">u\/SebSnares on Reddit<\/a> for the idea and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doradasoftware.com\/\">Dorada Software<\/a> for maintaining an app that can still be loaded on old devices &#8211; I recommend purchasing their ad removal subscription for that fact alone.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Down the rabbit hole again trying to revive an old iPhone 4 to pull Podcast duty for the kids.
